WINLINK PRESENTATION ON YOUTUBE

At the Pamlico Communications Team’s December 2024 meeting, PARS member,

long team member of the Winlink Development Team and current President

of the Amateur Radio Safety Foundation, Lor Kutchins, W3QA, provided an

in depth overview of Winlink Global Radio Email, the “network of amateur

radio and authorized government stations that provide worldwide radio

email using radio pathways where the internet is not present”. Over 20

team members and guests attended filling the Oriental fire department’s

BIT BUCKET

–Seen in the Oriental Spirit of Christmas Parade was Craig Croaker all

ready for the big day guiding the PARS “Oh Deere” tractor with Paul

Jodoin, K4MMB, behind the wheel. Thanks Paul for showing the PARS flag.

–In case you didn’t notice, the 2024 ARRL Field Day results are in the

December QST magazine. Three PARS members listed our “PARS ARS” as their

club resulting in a respectable 2,892 point score. Individual scores for

those three are buried in fine print on the 15 page list somewhere.

 

SOLAR NUMBERS TODAY

NOAA reports that solar activity was moderate during the 24 hour period

ending yesterday at 4 p.m. local. The largest solar event was an M3

event observed at 15/2024Z. The Space Weather Prediction Center expects

solar activity to be low today through Wednesday. There’s a chance for

M-class flares.

 

There are 6 numbered sunspot regions on the Sun facing Earth this

morning. There were 6 last Monday, 5 the Monday before.

 

Sunday’s noon Solar Flux Index (SFI) observation at Penticton was 172,

last Sunday’s was 178. The index is predicted to measure 170 today, 170

Tuesday and 170 on Wednesday. The much more important SFI 90 day

trailing average was 200 yesterday. It was 202 last Sunday.

 

The geomagnetic field was quiet to unsettled yesterday. The SWPC expects

the field to be quiet to unsettled today, quiet to active tomorrow and

quiet to unsettled Wednesday. The planetary K-index at 7 a.m. this

morning was 3.00 indicating quiet conditions.

 

No real change in propagation: poor during the day on 80 to 40, fair to

good at night; good day and night on 30 to 15; and good day, poor to

–REUNION ISLAND, FR. Thomas, DJ2TG is QRV as FR/DJ2TG until December

  1. Activity is on 30 meters and up using SSB and FT8.

–WAKE ISLAND, KH9. Allen, KH7AL is QRV as KH7AL/KH9 while on work

assignment. Activity is in his spare time on 40 to 10 meters using

primarily SSB and CW. His length is stay is unknown.

–BANGLADESH, S2. A group of operators are QRV as S21DX from Dhal Char,

IOTA AS-140, until December 19. Activity is on 160 to 10 meters,

including 60 meters, with three stations active using SSB, and FT8 in

Super Fox mode.
