“LETTER TO A SMALL TOWN WITH A BIG HEART”

Brian KQ4UVY, are our newest Hams and PARS members. It is a

DO-OVER! SitReps FOR THE 13 NOV 24 WEDNESDAY NIGHT NET (PCN)
Instead of the normal WinLink net check-in, members are requested to
transmit a Field Situation Report to N4PRS. It’s easy. Open RMS Express
then open a new message form. On the actions bar, click Select Template.
In the Template Manager open Standard Templates then open GENERAL Forms.
Select Field Situation Report.txt. Complete the form, click Submit and
follow the instruction in the pop-up window. For item 12, in addition to
your comments if any, please add “PCN CHECK-IN”. Simple. Questions?

SOLAR NUMBERS TODAY
NOAA reports that solar activity was high during the 24 hour period
ending yesterday at 4 p.m. local. The Space Weather Prediction Center
expects solar activity to be moderate with today through Wednesday with
a 30% chance for X-class flares. Radio blackouts reaching the R2 level
(10’s of minutes) are expected during the next 24 hours.
There are 6 numbered sunspot regions on the Sun facing Earth this
morning. There were 13 last Monday, 12 the Monday before.
Sunday’s noon Solar Flux Index (SFI) observation at Penticton was 231,
last Sunday’s was 241. The index is predicted to measure 210 today, 215
Tuesday and 215 on Wednesday. The much more important SFI 90 day
trailing average was 218 yesterday. It was 222 last Sunday.
The geomagnetic field reached minor storm levels yesterday. The SWPC
expects the field to reach minor storm levels again today, be quiet to
unsettled Tuesday, and quiet to active on Wednesday. The planetary
K-index at 4 a.m. this morning was 3.67 indicating quiet conditions.
Expect propagation to be about the same as last week: poor during the
day on 80 to 40, fair to good at night; good day and night on 30 to 15;
and good day, poor night on 12 and 10M. Go to

has continued to delivered DX, mostly from from Europe, in the morning
around 0800 local. Spain and Portugal were workable from Pamlico
yesterday morning with a 40M OCF.

–SOUTH COOK ISLAND, E5. Operators LZ1GC and LZ5QZ are QRV as E51SGC
from Rarotonga, IOTA OC-013, until November 24. Activity is on the HF bands.
–SAO TOME AND PRINCIPE, S9. A large group of operators will be QRV as
S9Z from Sao Tome, IOTA AS-023, from November 11 to 20. Activity will be
on 160 to 6 meters, 70 centimeters EME, and on Satellite QO-100, using
CW, SSB, and various digital modes.
–COCOS (KEELING) ISLANDS, VK9C. A large group of operators are QRV as
VK9CV until November 15. Activity is on 160 to 10 meters, and 6 meters,
using CW, SSB, RTTY, and FT8. This includes being active on Satellite
QO-100.
–ST. HELENA ISLAND, ZD7. Operators JM1GDA and JF3SFU are QRV as ZD7G
and ZD7SFU, respectively, until November 24. Activity is on 30 to 10
meters using mostly FT8 and SSB with some CW.
–Also this month: Maldives, Chatham Islands, Wallis Island, Phu Quoc
Island Vietnam [I’ve been there. In 1967 it was not a resort!-ed.] and
lots more.

acceptable. Used is OK. This is for one of my Technician students that
has a 2-meter rig that he wants to listen to, and eventually use to
access local repeaters. Old used cable is preferred as we will measure
its attenuation and adjust transmitter power accordingly as a hands-on
learning experience. Failing a 100′ piece we can splice a few shorter
pieces, again measuring attenuation, etc. So if you have some old cable
