MAYSVILLE HAMFEST THIS COMING SUNDAY, OCT 13TH
This is the closest hamfest to Oriental. Put a car pool together and
have some fun. You can get back early enough to mow the lawn. The
MAYSVILLE HAMFEST will be on Sunday, October 12th at the Maysville
Community Building and Park, 703 8th Street. (If coming from New Bern on
Business US-17 turn right on 8th Street.) Last of the old fashioned
tailgating swapfests, admission is free… There is no charge to setup
your table or tailgate to sell. Food will be available in the community
building for both breakfast and lunch. Hours are 8am to 2pm. Setup time

ELECTION OF OFFICERS FOR 2025

regular PARS monthly meeting for October 26 will feature the annual
election of club officers. As in the past, members in attendance will
cast their vote for president, vice-president, secretary, and treasurer.
Note that any member in good standing may run for any office. If you
would like to nominate someone, including yourself, for any position,
please let me know. We will also accept nominations from the floor.
SOLAR NUMBERS TODAY
NOAA reports that solar activity was high during the 24 hour period
ending yesterday at 5 p.m. local. The Space Weather Prediction Center
expects solar activity to be moderate today through Wednesday with a 30%
chance for X-class flares. Radio blackouts reaching the R1 (minutes)
level are likely.
There are 8 numbered sunspot regions on the Sun facing Earth this
morning. There were 9 last Monday, 7 the Monday before.
Sunday’s noon Solar Flux Index (SFI) observation at Penticton was 265,
last Sunday’s was 197. The index is predicted to measure 265 today, 260
Tuesday and 255 on Wednesday. The much more important SFI 90 day
trailing average was 222 yesterday. It was 214 last Sunday.
The geomagnetic field reached active levels yesterday. The SWPC expects
the field to reach minor, even strong (S3), storm levels today, be quiet
to active on Tuesday and then quiet on Wednesday. The planetary K-index
at 5 a.m. this morning was 3.33 indicating quiet conditions.
Expect propagation to be poor during the day on 80 to 40, good at night;
good day and night on 30 to 15; and good day, poor night on 12 and 10M.
