SILENT AUCTION RESULTS
Thank you to all who participated in the PARS/ORG Silent Auction on
Saturday, August 3rd at the Southeast Pamlico Vol. Fire Department,
Station 19, in Oriental. Including organizers and participants
(bidders), we had a total 21 amateur radio operators and one dog. There
were forty-two (42) ham radio related items up for bid with all but
three (3) being sold. And of the 42 items being auctioned, seventeen
(17) of them were auctioned off at more than the asking bid, that’s
pretty damn good!
The total amount of money collected was $3730 with $1060 going to PARS
and $2670 going to the Oriental Repeater Group (ORG). The PARS funds
will go to support club activities. The ORG monies will be used to
maintain the N4ONC VHF and UHF repeaters on the Kershaw tower and the
NC4ES VHF/DMR machine on the Arapahoe tower.
We had a special guest attend the auction and also purchased an item,
Dave Price, K4KDP, from Goldsboro. David is the ARRL NC Section Youth
Coordinator. Along with winning the bid on a nice Kenwood TS-450S HF
Transceiver with power supply, he also brought some ARRL “goodies” to
give away.
Along with David Price, I would like to thank the following Hams for
bidding on the various items: K4NLC, W3IYO, KW4LN, KQ4BUU, KK4TIK, NN2S,
KR4LO, K2TNO, KW1ZRD, KO4KQC, K4KDP, KI4KEB, WM3X, K4JJW and KQ4EY.
Thanks also goes to Chief Kindle and members of the Southeast Pamlico
Vol. Fire Department for allowing us to host this event at Station 19,
Thank You.
This auction was so successful, we are planning to hold another such
event in the future. In the meantime, everyone please be prepared for
the approaching tropical storm/hurricane and make sure your radios are
operational.
73 and STAY SAFE,
Bruce Perkins – K4ONC

this morning. There were 10 last Monday, 12 the Monday before. A new
major sunspot group AR3780 is emerging this morning and growing.
Sunday’s noon Solar Flux Index (SFI) observation at Penticton was 241,
last Sunday’s was 214. The index is predicted to measure 240 today, 240
Tuesday and 240 on Wednesday. The SFI 90 day trailing average was 194

unsettled Tuesday and Wednesday. The planetary K-index at 5 a.m. this
morning was 3.33 indicating quiet conditions.
Today, propagation is expected to be poor during the day, fair to good
at night on 80 to 20; good on 17 and 15, and good day, poor night on 12
