WHERE IS SHE NOW? EASTERN EXPRESS DAY 88 (or so)

We really don’t know, probably somewhere over northern Siberia. Her last

transmission was heard a week ago Saturday, the 8th of June. Then, she

was in Northeastern Siberia drifting westward in very light winds. Not

hearing from her can partially be explained by a HF blackout caused by a

major Polar Cap Attenuation (PCA) event that began last Wednesday and

lasted several days. Perhaps she has drifted so far north that she’s out

of range of WSPR listeners or maybe she lacks sufficient sunlight to

charge her super-capacitor. Likely, it’s all of the above. We will just

have to wait for her squawk to find her again.

BIT BUCKET

— So, about the croaker tractor in the Crokerfest Parade. Paul, K4MMB,

told us he has registered for the parade and will represent PARS despite

not receiving a resounding response from our PARSgram readership. He

probably still needs a loaner 2M mobile. If you have one, please contact

Paul at PARSwebman@gmail.com.

— It appears the long awaited 440 KE4TZN repeater on the new Nutrien

Radio Tower near Aurora may soon be operational. John Johnson, KE4TZN,

confirms that the DMR repeater will eventually be part of the NCPRN

System. Until internet connectivity is obtained, it will operate

locally. Details at

https://www.repeaterbook.com/repeaters/details.php?state_id=37&ID=22485

See www.https://ncprn.net/ for more on the PRN.

SOLAR NUMBERS TODAY

NOAA reports that solar activity was low during the 24 hour period

ending yesterday at 5 p.m. local. The Space Weather Prediction Center

expects solar activity to be moderate today through Wednesday with a

chance for M and X-class flares. Radio blackouts reaching the R1 level

are likely. There are 7 numbered sunspot regions on the Sun facing Earth

this morning. There were 10 last Monday, 9 the Monday before.

Sunday’s noon Solar Flux Index (SFI) observation at Penticton was 167,

last Sunday’s was 181. The index is predicted to measure 175 today, 180

Tuesday and 180 on Wednesday. The SFI 90 day trailing average was 176

yesterday. It was 174 last Sunday.

The geomagnetic field was quiet to active yesterday. The SWPC expects

the field to be quiet to unsettled today, quiet to active tomorrow, then

return to quiet levels on Wednesday. The planetary K-index at 5 a.m.

this morning was 2.00 indicating quiet conditions.

For the next several days, propagation is expected to be poor to fair

during the day, good at night on 80 to 20; good on 17 and 15, and good

day, poor night on 12 and 10M. Just like last week.

excellent article written by Carl Luetzelschwab, K9LA at
