PARS BREAKFAST MEETING THIS COMING SATURDAY
Our next meeting will be at 0900 Saturday, January 27th, in the back
room of Brantleys Village Restaurant on Broad Street in Oriental. Please
park along the side or out back. We hope to see you all there. Come
early for breakfast with your fellow hams. For more information contact
Pamlico Amateur Radio Society President Bruce Perkins, K4ONC,
252-626-2730 or K4ONC@aol.com
Should be an interesting meeting. Find out the latest on the Pamlico
County repeater situation. Debate the Cycle 25 peak; why is 10 meters so
different day and night? Show of hands: who has worked the Clipperton
dXpedition? Lots more plus a chance for a Brantleys Gift Certificate.
SOLAR NUMBERS TODAY
NOAA reports that solar activity was low during the 24 hour period
ending yesterday at 4 p.m. local. The Space Weather Prediction Center
expects solar activity to be low today through Wednesday with a chance
for M-class flares, a slight chance for an X-class flare. There are 9
numbered sunspot regions on the Sun facing Earth this morning. There
were 12 last Monday, 10 the Monday before.
Sunday’s noon Solar Flux Index (SFI) observation at Penticton was 179,
last Sunday’s was 188. The index is predicted to measure 175 today, 175
Tuesday and 170 on Wednesday. The SFI 90 day trailing average was 154
yesterday. It was 151 last Sunday.
The geomagnetic field was quiet to unsettled yesterday. The SWPC expects
the field to reach major storm levels (G2) today and tomorrow then quiet
to unsettled Wednesday. An Earth directed CME is the cause of the
storms. The planetary K-index at 7 am this morning was 1.00 indicating
quiet conditions.
For today and tomorrow, propagation is expected to be poor the 80
through 20 meter bands during the day, good at night. Propagation is
predicted to be good day and night for 17 and 15; good day, poor at
night for 12 and 10. This a repeat of the expectations for the past two
Mondays. No matter, turn on your radio, Clipperton is waiting for your
call. BTW, the CLIPPERTON BAND PLAN is at https://clip.pdxg.net/354-2/
and a how to work them is at https://clip.pdxg.net/how-to-work-us/
