PARS FOX HUNT — Saturday June 24th –ANOTHER CHANCE
Postponed at least twice, you now have another chance to sign up and go
hunting. Mark your calendar for the next PARS fox hunt on Saturday, June
24th, starting after the Saturday PARS breakfast meeting at Brantley’s
Restaurant. Now’s the time to sign up individually or as a team and join
in on the fun. No cost to participate! Winners will have a shot at three
prizes…1st prize is a Comet GP-1 dual band 2m/70cm antenna, 2nd prize
is a MFJ-108B 12/24 LCD desk clock, 3rd prize is a $20 gift certificate
to Brantleys. If you’d like to sign up contact Dick Goodwin K4JJW at
rgoodwin41@suddenlink.net. It will be a two hour single stage event
with one fox transmitter operating on 146.590 Mhz. Don’t forget that
you need to have your 2M handheld radio pre-programmed to 146.590 and
the 4 Mhz attenuator off-set frequency programmed for 150.590 Mhz. You
will have time to find the fox and grab a hamburger before Field Day begins.

SOLAR NUMBERS TODAY
NOAA reports that solar activity was low during the 24 hour period
ending yesterday at 5 p.m. local. There are 6 numbered sunspot regions
on the Sun facing Earth this morning. There were 7 last Monday, 7 the
Monday before. The Prediction Center expects solar activity to be low
today through Wednesday with a 20% chance for M-class flares.
Sunday’s noon Solar Flux Index (SFI) observation at Penticton was 154.
Last Sunday’s was 168. The index is predicted to measure 155 today, 157
Tuesday and 153 on Wednesday. The SFI 90 day trailing average was 152
yesterday. It was 152 last Sunday.
The geomagnetic field was quiet to unsettled Sunday. Conditions are
expected to be quiet to active today and Tuesday then quiet on
Wednesday. The planetary K-index at 5 am this morning was 1.33
indicating quiet conditions.
For the next few days, HF conditions are expected to range from poor to
fair on 80 through 40 during the day, good at night. The best conditions
during the day and night are likely to be found on the 20, 17 and 15
meter bands. Twelve and 10 meters should be good during the day, poor at
night.
Six meters was awake over the weekend, just in time for the big June
ARRL VHF contest. Players were rewarded with good single, double and
even triple E layer skip across the US. Yesterday afternoon, we noticed
west coast hams working Japan, east coast hams into Ireland and Wales.
It appeared that most of the activity was FT8 but there were also a
number of strong SSB signals.

–MAYOTTE, FH. Marek, FH4VVK is here until June 2024 and QRV on the
HF bands and 6 meters using SSB and FT8. He may soon be active
using RTTY. QSL to home call.
–DUCIE ISLAND, VP6. A group of operators will be QRV as VP6A from
June 11 to 24. Activity will be on 160 to 6 meters, with five
stations active, using CW, SSB, and FT8. QSL via HA7RY.
