until o/a Monday 10 April.

SOLAR NUMBERS TODAY

NOAA reported that solar activity was low during the 24 hour period

ending yesterday at 5 p.m. local. Then, this morning spaceweather.com

and NOAA reported that a M-2 flare occurred at 1:20 am local today. It

caused a R1 level radio blackout centered over Thailand.

There are 2 numbered sunspot regions on the Sun facing Earth this

morning.  There were 4 last Monday, 8 the Monday before. The Prediction

Center expects solar activity to be low today through Wednesday with a 1

in 4 chance for a M-class flares.

Yesterday’s noon Solar Flux Index (SFI) observation at Penticton was

  1. Last Sunday’s was 127. The index is predicted to measure 140 today,

145 tomorrow and 150 on Wednesday. The SFI 90 day trailing average was

168 yesterday. It was 170 last Monday.

The Earth’s geomagnetic field was quiet to unsettled yesterday. It is

expected be quiet to unsettled today and Tuesday, quiet to active on

Wednesday. The estimated Kp-index of 3.67 reported at 5 a.m. local this

morning indicates quiet geomagnetic conditions.

In the near term, HF conditions are expected to be good during the night

on 80 -15 Meters, fair to good during the day. The best conditions

during the day are likely to be found on 30-15 meters. Twelve and 10

meters will be fair during the day, poor at night. This is a little

improvement from last Monday.
