frequency for the second. Expect a picnic lunch. More info to come as
plans develop. So here’s what you need to know for now:

SOLAR NUMBERS TODAY
NOAA reported that solar activity was low during the 24 hour period
ending yesterday at 5 p.m. local. The largest recent solar event was a
C3 event 0319 Sunday. There are 11 numbered sunspot regions on the Sun
facing Earth this morning. There were 9 last Monday. The Prediction
Center expects solar activity to be low today through Wednesday with a
slight chance of M-class flares.
Yesterday’s noon Solar Flux Index (SFI) observation at Penticton was
- Last Sunday’s was 180. The index is predicted to measure 150 today,
145 tomorrow and 140 on Wednesday. The SFI 90 day trailing average was
172 yesterday. It was 170 last Monday. It’s still creeping up…
The Earth’s geomagnetic field was quiet to unsettled yesterday. It is
expected be quiet today, quiet to unsettled Tuesday, and then reach
minor storm levels on Wednesday when a CME should graze the Earth. The
estimated Kp-index of 0.67 reported at 8 a.m. local this morning
indicates quiet geomagnetic conditions.
The 10 meter band was very active Sunday, no real surprise there. But
then–wham!–there was a big opening on 6 meters Sunday mid-day. Dick,
K4JJW, hopped on the Oriental repeater with the news for whoever might
be listening. Appears we had trans-equatorial propagation likely
combined with F-layer skip that gave us the pop. He reported good FT8
numbers from stations almost to the tip of South America. There was
sideband activity too. A bit early for the Summer season, a bit late for
the Winter season but then, who cares. We’ll take it!
For today, HF conditions are expected to be good during the night on 80
-15 Meters. The best conditions are likely to be found on 15-10 meters
during the day. Ten meters will close at night. Check on 6M around noon.
