SOLAR NUMBERS TODAY
NOAA reported that solar activity was moderate during the 24 hour period
ending yesterday at 4 p.m. local. The largest solar event was a M-1
flare. There are 9 numbered sunspot regions on the Sun facing Earth this
morning. There were 9 last Monday. The Prediction Center expects solar
activity to be moderate today through Wednesday with a chance for
M-class (55%) flares and a slight chance for an X-class (10%) flare from
either of two unstable sunspot regions
Yesterday’s noon Solar Flux Index (SFI) observation at Penticton was
- Last Sunday’s was 234. The index is predicted to measure 195 today,
200 tomorrow and 190 on Wednesday. The SFI 90 day trailing average was
149 yesterday. It was 141 last Monday.
The Earth’s geomagnetic field was quiet to unsettled yesterday. It is
expected to be quiet to active today through Wednesday. The estimated
Kp-index of 0.67 reported at 7 a.m. local this morning indicated very
quiet geomagnetic conditions.
For today, we can expect good nightime operating conditions on 80
through 15 meters and good day and poor night conditions on 12 and 10.

WALLIS AND FUTUNA ISLANDS, FW. Jean-Gabriel, F4CIX, is QRV as FW1JG
and expects to be here until January 2024. He is active on 40 to 6
meters using SSB and FT8. QSL via LoTW.
PALAU, T8. Operators JH3LSS, JA3HJI, JA3IVU, JA3ARJ and JA3AVO are
QRV as T88DK, T88DN, T88ED, T88EF, and T88MB from Koror Island, IOTA
OC-009, until January 27. Activity is on 160 to 10 meters using CW,
SSB, FT8, and FT4. QSL to home calls.
CONGO, TN. A group of operators are QRV as TN8K until January 21.
Activity is on 160 to 6 meters using CW, SSB, RTTY, PSK, FT8, and
FT4. This includes being active on Satellite QO-100. QSL via
OK6DJ.
