BIT BUCKET

*  You asked for, you got it. The promised 2022 PARS FOX HUNT photo

story is out and ready for all to see. Check it out at

What’s Happening

*  PARS website visits jump. Paul reports, as of yesterday noon, we’ve

230 visits in the last 30 days, many more than normal. Must be lots of

folks looking for those Fox Hunt photos.

*  The New York Times reports that EV’s produce too much noise and

static for AM radio reception. Carmakers are leaving AM radio behind.

What’s that mean for mobile amateur radio? Probably not much. Hams are

experienced at dealing with interference. The report:

*  Yes, the Arapahoe dual mode repeater was down for a few days early

this month. All fixed and now with a little more output thanks to Lor

W3QA, Bill KR4LO, and Bruce K4ONC.

*  And the decked out N4PRS.ORG Special Event PARSmobile, AKA “Lil

Shaky”, was on a roll in Oriental’s Spirit of Christmas Parade Saturday

with webmaster/master mechanic/antique auto restorer Paul, K4MMB, at the

wheel. Jane, his chief adviser, was seen at his side giving direction.

SOLAR NUMBERS TODAY

NOAA reported that solar activity was low during the 24 hour period

ending yesterday at 4 p.m. local. There are 9 numbered sunspot regions

on the Sun facing Earth this morning, yes 9! There were 5 last Monday.

Even with nine, the Prediction Center expects solar activity to be low

today through Wednesday. All nine have relatively stable magnetic

fields. M-class flares are possible.

At the noon reading yesterday, the observed Solar Flux Index (SFI) at

Penticton was 148. Last Sunday it was 144. The index is predicted to

measure 145 today, 140 tomorrow and 130 on Wednesday. The SFI 90 day

trailing average was 132 yesterday, up one.

The Earth’s geomagnetic field was quiet to unsettled yesterday. It is

expected to be quiet today through Wednesday. The estimated Kp-index of

0.67 reported at 7 a.m. local this morning indicated quiet geomagnetic

conditions.

For today, we can expect fair to good operating conditions on the HF

bands 80 through 15 meters, fair day but poor night on 12 and 10.
