OL’ FRONT PORCH MUSIC FESTIVAL- PLEASE HELP IF YOU CAN
From Bruce, K4ONC–
PARS has been asked by the organizers of the Ol’ Front Porch Music
Festival to help make this popular event safe for our visitors and
performers. The festival is on Friday and Saturday, September 30th and
October 1st, with live music venues on porches scattered along streets
closest to the river in Oriental. Most activity will be near Lou Mac
Park. Growing larger each year, this Musicfest has become extremely
popular and draws visitors from near and far. Thousands are expected to
attend. We are scheduled to work “closed road barricades”, guiding
perfomers and visitors and coordinating with the festival staff via our
radios, on FRIDAY THE 30TH ONLY, from about 10am to 7pm.
With few volunteers so far, we need more to man the 6 locations through
the day.
ALL volunteers are invited to an orientation meeting on Saturday, Sept
24th, 10 am in the Fellowship Hall at the Oriental United Methodist
Church, 404 Freemason Street. At that time the event organizers will go
over all the plans and answer any and all questions. If you are unable
to attend, please advise me and I will pass all pertinent information to
you. Since the monthly PARS meeting has been moved to October 1st, there
should not be any conflict with the orientation.
On Sunday, Oct 2nd at 3pm there will be a “Volunteer Appreciation Pizza
Party” at the Red Rooster, behind the Silos Restaurant.
Please contribute some of your valuable time helping to make the Music
Festival a safe and enjoyable event, interact with fellow PARS members
and the community, hear some great music and have fun. To signup please
call Bruce Perkins, K4ONC, at 252-626-2730 or email K4ONC@aol.com.
