PAMLICO COMMUNICATIONS TEAM LEARNS ABOUT DEPLOYMENT BAGS
Lor Kutchins, W3QA, made a presentation on “Deployment Bags” to members
of the Pamlico Communications Team (PCT) during our monthly meeting on
Saturday, March 4th at the Florence-Whortonsville Fire Department. The
bags are comprised of such items as clothing, personal hygiene kit,
survival gear, first aid kit, food and many other items for a multi day
deployment. Lor also showed us a bag that he carries in his car for
emergencies or other unexpected events. There was also an informative
discussion as to what we should have prepared in the event of a natural
or man made disaster and no services are available or we have to leave
our home quickly. All in all it was a very interesting and informative
morning.
If any amateur radio operator, regardless of license class, is
interested in Emergency Communications and would like to join us, we
meet the first Saturday of every month, unless otherwise noted in the
PARSgram, at the Florence-Whortonsville FD on Florence Road at 0900 hrs.

SOLAR NUMBERS TODAY
NOAA reported that solar activity was at low levels during the 24 hour
period ending yesterday at 4 p.m. local. There are 5 numbered sunspot
regions on the Sun facing Earth this morning. The Prediction Center
expects solar activity to be low today through Wednesday. There is a
chance (1 in 4) for M-class flares each day. On Sunday the observed
Solar Flux Index (SFI) at Penticton was 116. (Last Sunday it was 97.)
The index is predicted to measure 116 at noon today and again on noon
Tuesday then 115 Wednesday. The SFI 90 day trailing average is up two to
- There have been no spotless days so far this year.
The Earth’s geomagnetic field reached minor storm levels yesterday. NOAA
expects conditions to be quiet to active today, quiet to unsettled
Tuesday and then quiet on Wednesday. The estimated Kp-index of 2
reported at 7 a.m. local this morning indicates quiet geomagnetic
conditions.
We can expect fair day and good nighttime operating conditions today on
80 and 40 meters and good day and night on 30 and 20. Conditions will be
fair on 15/17 and poor on 12/10.
