PAMLICO NC4ES DMR REPEATER BACK IN FLORENCE

After a successful short test run using a recently repaired 440 antenna

at the Kershaw Tower repeater site, the Pamlico NC4ES DMR repeater was

returned to the Florence-Whortonsville VFD (Station 25) on Saturday

morning, Nov 13th. It was quickly placed back into operation to support

the Eastern Healthcare Preparedness Coalition AUXCOMM Group and the

greater amateur community. A permanent DMR repeater is planned for the

Kershaw site. For more information go to https://www.nc4es.org/ or

contact Bruce Perkins, K4ONC, 252-626-2730 or K4ONC.Bruce@gmail.com.

SOLAR NUMBERS TODAY

NOAA reported solar activity was very low during the 24 hour period

ending yesterday at 4 p.m. local. There are two reported numbered

sunspot regions on the Sun facing Earth this morning. The Prediction

Center expects solar activity to be very low today through Wednesday

with a chance for C-class flares each day. On Sunday the observed Solar

Flux Index (SFI) at Penticton was 78. (Last Sunday it was 88.) The index

is predicted to measure 79 today, 80 tomorrow and 79 on Wednesday. The

SFI 90 day trailing average is creeping up and now at 87.

The Earth’s geomagnetic field was quiet yesterday. NOAA expects

conditions to be quiet today, quiet to active Tuesday and then quiet to

unsettled Wednesday. The estimated Kp-index of 1 reported at 7 a.m.

local this morning reflects our current quiet geomagnetic conditions.

We can expect fair daytime and fair operating conditions today on 80 and

40 meters, fair on 30 and 20, poor on the higher bands. The VHF bands

have been quiet. Six meter band activity should increase as the short

Winter E-layer skip season approaches.
