NOVEMBER PAMLICO COMMUNICATIONS TEAM MEETING
From Bruce Perkins, K4ONC, Pamlico AuxComm Coordinator–
The November, Pamlico Communications Team (PCT) meeting was held on
Saturday, Nov 6th, 2021 at the FWFD, Station 25. The following amateur
radio operators were present: Bruce Perkins, K4ONC; Lor Kutchins, W3QA;
Gary Mitchelson, NC3Z; Bill Olah, KR4LO; Wayne Mulligan, K1CBI; Bill
Cresswell, K2ONN; Jim Hartmeyer, AI4WL; Ben Barnett, KI4NSO; Mike Marsh,
K4NLC; and Joe Lupton, N4IBX.
The meeting was called to order by Bruce at 0910 hours. Lor and Gary
discussed the upcoming COMMS EX that is to take place on Thursday,
December 9th. Both were very tight lipped as to any particulars but
advised that those who participate will enjoy the exercise and hopefully
learn something new. We were asked to check our personal radio equipment
to make sure things were operational and to review several ICS Forms.
Also to review the NIFOG and AUXFOG manuals that we have discussed the
past two weeks on the Net. Those who did not have current ICS-100, 200,
700 and 800 training, were asked to complete same online by the next
meeting. By a show of hands, all those present indicated that they were
planning on participating in the EX. Everyone who was not registered to
participate via NCTERMS were asked to do so.
We finished the meeting with a follow-up discussion of the DMR
presentation that Lor had made to the PARS Club meeting the previous
Saturday. Also, Bruce brought his Anytone D578UVIII Plus DMR Mobile,
same radio as seen in Lor’s presentation, to demonstrate. Some also
downloaded the DROID STAR (DMR) app on their smartphones and tested them.
Meeting was adjourned at approx 1130 hrs. The next meeting will be on
Saturday, December 4th at Station 25. The agenda will center around the
last minute prep for the Dec. 9th COMMS EX. Anyone interested in joining
the PCT or who would like to check us out is invited to join us on Dec.
4th at 0900hrs.

SOLAR NUMBERS TODAY
NOAA reported solar activity was very low during the 24 hour period
ending yesterday at 5 p.m. local. It has definitely quieted down since
last Monday’s report. There are two reported numbered sunspot regions on
the Sun facing Earth this morning. A third sunspot is appearing on the
eastern limb. The Prediction Center expects solar activity to be very
low today through Wednesday with a chance for C-class flares each day.
On Sunday the observed Solar Flux Index (SFI) at Penticton was 88. (Last
Sunday it was 103.) The index is predicted to measure 85 today, 82
tomorrow and 82 on Wednesday. The SFI 90 day trailing average is 86.
The Earth’s geomagnetic field was quiet to active yesterday. NOAA
expects conditions to be quiet to unsettled today and then quiet on
Tuesday and Wednesday. The estimated Kp-index of 1 reported at 7 a.m.
local this morning reflects our current quiet geomagnetic conditions.
We can expect good operating conditions today on 80 and 40 meters, fair
on 30 and 20, poor on the higher bands. DXmaps shows numerous meteor
scatter and some E layer skip and tropo contacts this morning.
