PRESIDENT’S SOAPBOX
I got a note from Bob, AF4QY, that says in part, ” Tuesday Nov 12 at
noon is the next Down East Hospital Net exercise. If you’d like to test
your UHF equipment, call in on one of the Down East Link system
repeaters. When you call net control, give your call sign
phonetically, your location and the health care facility or other agency
you could assist with back-up communications in a real emergency. Also
state the repeater you’re using so we can monitor which ones are
active.” I’ve sent a list of the repeaters in this system to Paul,
K4MMB, for posting on our web page. This is a great opportunity to
become familiar with this emergency resource. _…_ At the ARES
meeting this past Thursday evening we had an extensive discussion about
our support of the Cycle NC event next year. For a variety of reasons
it was decided that PARS will not be able to provide communications
support for this event. …_._ de WM3X, Bill Michne, 252-249-1175,

SOLAR NUMBERS TODAY
NOAA reported that solar activity was very low during the 24 hours
ending yesterday at 4 pm local. There are no sunspot regions on the Sun
facing earth this morning. We have had 235 days without so far this
year. Solar activity will continue to be very low according to the Space
Weather Prediction Center. On Sunday, the reported Solar Flux Index
(SFI) at Penticton was 71. The index is predicted to register 70 today
through Wednesday. The SFI 90 day trailing average is 68.
The Earth’s geomagnetic field was quiet yesterday. It is expected to be
quiet to active today, quiet to unsettled Tuesday and then quiet on
Wednesday. The estimated Kp-index of 3 at 7 a.m. local this morning
indicates we are currently experiencing quiet conditions.
We can expect faur daytime and good nighttime operating conditions on 80
and 40 meters for the next few days. Poor conditions will continue on
the higher bands.

article written by Carl Luetzelschwab, K9LA at
