SOLAR NUMBERS TODAY
NOAA reported that solar activity was very low during the 24 hours ending
yesterday at 5 pm local. The largest recent solar event was a B5 flare
observed at 0042Z this morning. There are 5 numbered sunspot regions on the
disk facing Earth. The sunspot count this morning is 75, up from the low 38
reported by NOAA a week ago at this time. The Solar Flux Index (SFI) is 99,
up a little from the 85 reported here last Monday. The NOAA forecast
shows the SFI staying about the same, rising to 105 today and Tuesday and
back down to 100 on Wednesday. According to the Space Weather Prediction
Center, solar activity is expected to be very low for the next three days
with a chance for C-class flares, and a slight 10% chance for M-class
flares. Despite the emergence of a new and unstable sunspot region
(AR2415), the sun remains quiet. The sun’s X-ray output is very low.

The Earth’s geomagnetic field was quiet to unsettled over the weekend. The
Earth’s geomagnetic field is expected be quiet to active today, unsettled to
minor storm levels Tuesday, and then back to quiet to active on Wednesday.
Fluctuating solar winds are the cause. The Kp-index was reported to
be a quiet 2 at 0800 local this morning.

Your best chance for DX is to be found on the 30 and 20 Meter Bands and 40
Meters at night.
