PARS’ HOLIDAY BREAKFAST MEETING AND “GIFT” EXCHANGE 28 DECEMBER
For our final gathering of the year the business agenda will be short.
The “program” that follows will be our annual exchange of small gifts.
These presents should be related to ham radio in some way, but please,
no cans of ham. Put your imagination to work. Check out your junk box,
look around your shack for stuff that works but you no longer need. Make
something. See what you can find, then wrap it and bring it to the
meeting. If you buy something, please don’t spend much more than 15
bucks or so. Exchange your gift for a number. After your number is
called, go through the pile of gifts and pick one. If you already have a
widget like the one you unwrapped, swap it for something else. It’s fun!
See you at the meeting on Saturday, December 28th at 9 am in the back
room of Brantley’s Village Restaurant in Oriental. And if you forget a
“gift”, not to worry, come anyway, eat, be merry and enjoy
the show.

PAMLICO SWIFT WATER TEAM RESPONSE TO HURRICANE HELENE AT THE PCT
Gary Mitchelson, NC3Z, will be making a presentation to the Pamlico
Communications Team (PCT) regarding the Pamlico County Swift Water
Rescue Team’s response to Hurricane Helene in Western NC. He and the
team were one of the first emergency responders into the area. He will
give us a run down of the conditions they faced upon deploying to the
area and the situations they encountered. The photos he will show of the
area will be dramatic.

Gary is the Fire Chief of the Florence-Whortonsville Fire Department
Station 25, holds an Amateur Extra radio license, a SHARES member, a NC
AHIMT COML, member of NC AUXCOM, and lead of the Pamlico County Swift
Water Rescue, to name a few.

This promises to be a very interesting and informative presentation. I
highly recommend any amateur radio operator interested in EmComm to attend.

This presentation, hosted by the PCT, will be held on Saturday, January
4th, 0900hrs at Fire Station 19, Southeast Pamlico Volunteer Fire
Department and EMS, 182 Straight Road, Oriental. All are welcome.
–Bruce, K4ONC

NOAA reports that solar activity was moderate during the 24 hour period
ending yesterday at 4 p.m. local. The largest solar event of the period
was a M8 event observed at 23/1112Z. The Space Weather Prediction Center
expects solar activity to be moderate today through Wednesday. There’s a
slight chance for X-class flares. Radio blackouts reaching the R1 level
are likely.

morning. There were 6 last Monday, 6 the Monday before.

Sunday’s noon Solar Flux Index (SFI) observation at Penticton was 223,
last Sunday’s was 172. The index is predicted to measure 220 today, 220
Tuesday and 215 on Wednesday. The much more important SFI 90 day
trailing average was 202 yesterday. It was 200 last Sunday.

the field to be quiet to unsettled today though Wednesday. The planetary

The numbers are again up so the solar max is far from over. Expect poor
