WHERE IS SHE NOW? EASTERN EXPRESS REPORTS IN
Well, well, from Lor, W3QA last Wednesday: “Don’t know whether you
heard… but NC4ES-6 squeezed out a lone single spot from northern
Myanmar over the weekend. She’s fading, but not yet gone.” It was a
single wspr report at 0344Z/01 Sep 2024 copied by HS0ZQS. That would put
the little balloon on the 163rd day of her voyage. Wonder where she’s
been since we last heard from her in early July….

SOLAR NUMBERS TODAY
NOAA reports that solar activity was moderate during the 24 hour period
ending yesterday at 5 p.m. local. The Space Weather Prediction Center
expects solar activity to be moderate today through Wednesday with a
slight chance–a 15% chance–for X-class flares. Radio blackouts at the
R1 (minutes) level are likely on sunlit side of the Earth. There are 11
numbered sunspot regions on the Sun facing Earth this morning. There
were 10 last Monday, 10 the Monday before.
Sunday’s noon Solar Flux Index (SFI) observation at Penticton was 228,
last Sunday’s was 226. The index is predicted to measure 225 today, 225
Tuesday and 220 on Wednesday. The much more important SFI 90 day
trailing average was 215 yesterday. It was 211 last Sunday.
The geomagnetic field was quiet to unsettled yesterday. The SWPC expects
the field to be quiet to unsettled today, reach major storm levels
Tuesday when a CME arrives and then be quiet or at minor storm levels on
Wednesday. The planetary K-index at 5 a.m. this morning was 2.33
indicating quiet conditions.
Expect propagation to be poor during the day on 80 to 40, good at night;
good on 30 to 15; and good day, poor night on 12 and 10M. Go to
https://www.n4prs.org/looking-up/ for the latest observations.
