WHERE IS SHE NOW? EASTERN EXPRESS DAY 116 (or so)

Where is she? Not a clue. As I write this on Sunday afternoon, her last

report was more than a week ago, on Friday July 5th. She was over

Germany nearing Berlin. Last Sunday, lu7aa.org estimated she would have

passed over the Ural’s and be well into Siberia. If you believe those

folks, by now she should be half way across Canada still truck’n along

eastward. Anyway, no word on where she might be. We hope to get reports

of her weak signal again. If not, stand by, another balloon is in the

works. This one will likely have the call sign N4PRS.

SOLAR NUMBERS TODAY

NOAA reports that solar activity was high during the 24 hour period

ending yesterday at 5 p.m. local. An X1 flare occurred at 10:34pm

Saturday. The Space Weather Prediction Center expects solar activity to

be moderate today through Wednesday with a slight chance for X-class

flares. There are 12 numbered sunspot regions on the Sun facing Earth

this morning. There were 9 last Monday, 15 the Monday before.

Sunday’s noon Solar Flux Index (SFI) observation at Penticton was 234,

last Sunday’s was 171. The index is predicted to measure 230 today, 230

Tuesday and 230 on Wednesday. The SFI 90 day trailing average was 187

The geomagnetic field was quiet yesterday. The SWPC expects the field to

be quiet through Wednesday. The planetary K-index at 5 a.m. this morning

was 1.67 indicating quiet conditions.

For the next several days, propagation is expected to be poor to fair

during the day, good at night on 80 to 20; good on 17 and 15, and good

day, poor night on 12 and 10M. Go to https://www.n4prs.org/looking-up/
