YEP, THERE’S A PARS SPRING FOX HUNT AHEAD
More details are emerging but here’s what you need to know for now. The
date’s April 20th, a Saturday, and the check-in time at the Oriental
Station 19 VFD is likely 10 am. The check-in time can change. At the
end, whether you find it or not or are just coming around to see who
did, there’s a FOX hunt yama-yama and picnic (read hamburger, beans,
chips, etc.) social. The chief chef needs to know who’s coming. Please
contact Chef Mike Marsh, K4NLC, at 252-636-1257 or
mike@MarshConsulting.org and let him know that you’re going to hunt for
the Fox and let him know about any others in your pack. The rest of us
PARS folk and guests that are just coming for the social (Yama and
lunch) need to reserve our space at the trough too. Almost forgot, the
cost is zippo. More to come…
BIT BUCKET
A replacement Oriental N4ONC UHF 440 repeater went on line Saturday.
Hopefully, the range has been improved. Give a listen, give a shout. AND
THEN give Lor, W3QA; Bill, KR4LO; or any others of the Oriental Repeater
Group (Mike, Bruce, and Wayne) a short reception report when you get a
chance.
SOLAR NUMBERS TODAY
NOAA reports that solar activity was moderate during the 24 hour period
ending yesterday at 5 p.m. local. The Space Weather Prediction Center
expects solar activity to be low today through Wednesday with a chance
for M-class flares. There were 6 numbered sunspot regions on the Sun
facing Earth this morning. There were 5 last Monday, 7 the Monday before.
Sunday’s noon Solar Flux Index (SFI) observation at Penticton was 151,
last Sunday’s was 127. The index is predicted to measure 155 today, 160
Tuesday and 162 on Wednesday. The SFI 90 day trailing average was 162
yesterday. It was 163 last Sunday.
The geomagnetic field was quiet yesterday. The SWPC expects the field to
be quiet again today and tomorrow. It is to reach minor storm levels on
Wednesday. A CME from yesterday’s eruption will graze the Earth. The
planetary K-index at 5 a.m. this morning was 0.67 indicating quiet
conditions.
For today and tomorrow, propagation is expected to be poor on the 80
through 40 meter bands during the day, good at night. Thirty and 20 fair
during the day, good at night. Seventeen and 15 are expected to be good,
both day and night. It’s forecast to be good during the day, poor at
night on 12 and 10.
