-Just nosing around on QRZ yesterday, I looked up our club call, N4PRS.
As you would expect there’s some nice pictures, information about PARS,
Oriental and such. But check out the fine print. We’ve been listed on
QRZ since April 2008 when Bill Michne applied for the club call. Could it be so that the number of “Lookups” since then is up to 2,522,958–yep, 2 MILLION, 522 THOUSAND, 958? Folks, that’s a bunch!
Hard to believe we’ve been that active. Maybe we’re just popular…
-Ever seen the Oriental repeater rack out at the Kershaw tower site?
Check out “N4ONC” on QRZ.com/lookup. The area has been cleaned up and is awaiting both the 440 repeater now being tested by Bill, KR4LO, and the 2M replacement, a combination analog and DMR transceiver, being put together by Lor, W3QA. The 440 repeater could be up and running as early as late today (444.350 MHz + PL 85.4).
SOLAR NUMBERS TODAY
NOAA reported solar activity was low during the 24 hour period ending yesterday at 4 p.m. local. There are 5 reported numbered sunspot regions on the Sun facing Earth, one of them quite large. The Prediction Center expects solar activity to be low today through Wednesday. There is a chance for M-class flares. On Sunday the observed Solar Flux Index (SFI) at Penticton was 125. (Last Sunday it was 115.) The index is predicted to measure 125 today and tomorrow and then 122 on Wednesday. The SFI 90 day trailing average is up three to 92.
The Earth’s geomagnetic field was quiet yesterday. NOAA expects conditions to be quiet today and then quiet to active Tuesday and Wednesday. The estimated Kp-index of 2 reported at 7 a.m. local this morning reflects our quiet geomagnetic conditions.
We can expect fair day and good nighttime operating conditions today on 80 and 40 meters, good on 30 and 20, fair on 17 and 15, and fair on 12 and 10. Propagation on six meters is improving. The Winter Es season has arrived. Last evening DXmaps was showing many Es contacts being made in the Midwest.

The PARSgram is a weekly email publication for members of the Pamlico Amateur Radio Society (PARS), an association of amateur radio operators located in, near, or from Pamlico County, North Carolina.
